i got laid off recently and ill be looking for employment soon enough. the question i have is about my folio site: http://www.refluxdesign.com
this is the site that got me my last gig about 1yr+ ago. from your perspective do you think i should redesign it to keep it fresh and to gain interest again, or do you think its still strong enough to land me another gig? keep in mind ill be updating it with the latest works (about 10+ new web projects) + resume and skillset thing on the page.
your feedback is appreciated. if you think i should keep it the way it is but update other things i havent mentioned, let me know what it is that bugs you.
thanx!

I had your site bookmarked long time ago, it's still very inspirational, no need to redesign. You shouldn't have problem finding a job.
Why did you get laid off ???

phut? as in phut from the days of #photoshop, lol, long time no see... sorry to hear about your luck, you were working for IML right?
Well, the sites still cool, but I figure if its for getting you a position, well, maybe put more focus on the portfolio it seems to equal in importance with everything else you've got going on in there visually.
Best of luck to you.
p.s.
maybe i should say no, you need something new, because everything new i've seen of yours is usually amazing and gives me some sorta tingly feeling.

your site is very nice. takes a while to load tho, but its nice, only thing i would get rid of is the links frame at the bottom, why in gods name you would put links to other designers on your own portfolio is beyond me.
If you had a tshirt shop would you put a big poster in your shop window for the tshirt shop down the road? But you site is very very nice. well done

atomica: yes, thats me, lol. the good ol' #photoshop and #design days on efnet. i wasnt working for iml. i quit that more than 1.5yr ago, ive been at http://www.rhinointernet.com ever since, working as a senior designer for more than a year. i have no idea what happened today, noone could believe i got laid off and im still in shock. i guess the official reason is they had to cut expenses somewhere, whether people agree with the decisions they made today, i dont wanna discuss in a public forum, im sure you understand. ive done a couple of good sites at rhino, including: http://www.smithandwesson.com | http://www.casinodelsol.com | http://strategic.rhinonet.com and others. i think if i just updated my portfolio and skillset window and cleaned up the code a little bit to cut on the loading time the site should be fine.
ultimately i do wanna design a new site just to gain some recognition again (which helped a lot the last time i relaunched) but time is sort of an issue right now, since im working on a couple of freelance projects and ill have to start looking for a new job soon.
sexypixel: good point on those links. thank you.
anyone else got an opinion? dont be shy, i wont get offended if you give me shit about the site as long as its constructive criticism. :)

i had load time issues too (Mac G4 400 tho...) and that kinda bugged me...
I am also not a big fan of the "skillset rating system" as it seems a little, well, cheeky.
However, the site is STILL one of the best portfolio sites i have seen...clean, crisp, entertaining, nice to look at and solid self promotion. had it bookmarked for god knows how long. kudos, and hope you find work...luckily i just did after about 2 months of joblessness.

Phutura, this is Saf. Sorry to hear about Rhino. Your site rocks and you know I love your work. Especially that Casino Del Sol site - its a masterpiece I believe. A guy with your talent will hopefully not have a hard time finding a job. Best of luck man.
I'd like to talk to you sometime.
- phutura0
saf, 'sup mang. ill try to get on AIM tomorrow after i take care of some stuff first. thanks for your support too. i should have everything updated on the site sometime by the end of the week hopefully. (this includes misc. comps that have never been seen before, oooh! hehehe) :)

great! let me know when you update your site. i am your number one fan :)
heard about kevin too from his site. this sucks. but i am glad you guys are positive about it and there is every reason you guys should be positive. last year in August I, too, was laid off. That's when I moved to AZ and decided to go back to school.
Did they lay off a lot of people?
- phutura0
lol saf, thx. :)
about the lay offs, it was just me and him. ill tell you more when we talk.

I remember the site being amongst the best portfolios according to K10K's Toke - can't be too bad then....
The work shown is superb and presented in a proper way which will attract some companies...
The only thing i would change is the font cuz times new roman is hard to read in the chosen size and Sylvester should be banned from the launch-site cuz most business executives have lost their play instinct as a result of the dull jobs they do.....
- phutura0
lol!
good call on sylvester, i shall replace him with something new. thx. =D

looks ok....

yup, i've been a fan of your site for sometime now too. I wouldnt think you would have nay problems finding a job with a quality portfolio like yours. If time's a concern, make a few minor changes to keep it fresh and update the work. Its still a strong site though, IMHO.
good luck mate.

sorry to hear about your job phutura, but don't worry change is good and so is your site.
A few things:
• Sylvester on the splash isn't consistent with the image of the rest of your work.
• You have done an admirable job with your portfolio, I especially like how concise it all is, with all the relevant info on one screen. Also think your in depth project descriptions outlining your role are informative.
• The only thing I can think that may be lacking promotion are the other skills you may have that are not software related. You obviously have with information architecture skills – how about people, project or time management skills? Can you pitch for jobs or write proposals? These things would be important if you were going for a higher position or small company, maybe not so important if you are looking for freelancing work.good luck!

shit - I remember that site from when you first released it!
It's fucking dope man - was ahead of its time then and still looks and works nice - jsut update it a bit and you're good to go - good luck mate....
