I have seen this article at http://www.graphicdesignbasics.c… saying that Friends of Ed (aka FOE) has closed its doors. Does anyone know this to be absolute fact?
And ped wrote this on the FOE site on March 14
"ED is dead

keep designing,
keep flashing,
keep photoshoping,
keep doing whatever it is you do.remember what we believed in: designer to designer.
keep an eye out for us,
we'll be aroundit's been swell,
you've been a great audience.over...and out."
I can't believe this to be the truth. These books were awesome and so far beyond the New Riders and Peachpit Press books. They spoke to designers one on one with an understanding of our medium and our needs.
All we can hope is that they will come back. I personally am going to make it an effort to snatch up the few titles I don't own before they go out of print everywhere.

An end to designer laziness.
I guess we'll have to figure it for ourselves now...
...which is a good thing.

its weird I don't remember hearing anything about it on any of the design portal sites. I would think that because all of these news editors often promote unity and support for the love of design that someone would have mentioned it.
BTW, that site has a list of a lot of great authors out of work or with half-completed manuscripts so if you have some money and want to publish a book I'd recommend checking out that talent pool.

true but I liked the way the most recent books work going - taking the design to a niche level.
For example the faces book did a great job of showing the possibilities abound by manipulating the human face with traditional and radical design methods.
They weren't just all about training the eye, but instead training the mind. At least that is how the books seemed to me.v
