new G4 now or later?

I'm thinking of putting up the money for a new G4 dual 1.42ghz but should I wait? will Apple put out a new G4 soon or new processer upgrade? Does anyone know of the best place to get one cheap. on Ebay they seem the cheap..

All Apple computers fly for the same price mostly give or take a few bucks.. a new one now or later depends on how much you need it. I do the majority of my work (print,web,video) on a dual 450 that is 3 years old, serve files from a 6 year old mac, and run itunes as an mp3 server off a 8 year old mac with no real problems... so it depends on what you need it for. If you dont need it right away and will have some loot hold out for the next batch but if I can run a business and feed a family on a supposedly "outdated' computer I am sure you will do just fine also.

well I need it for after effects, final cut and dvd studio pro. I have one now but I want more power rendering is killing me. I just wanted to know if Apple was planning a new line of PowerMac with in a few months.

yes, apple is coming out with new macs using new processors. That's like saying you will die eventually.
The good news is that rumor site have been saying it's likely coming in the fall, with a formal announcement perhaps during the developer's conference in june.

I would not invest in an Apple computer anymore!! Its a waste of money. They are to expensive for what you'll get. And a PC is most of the time faster. I have an Apple 733 and I feel very 'fucked' by Apple. Cause I found out that the HD, CD-writer, and RAM are the cheapest 'PC' products! You can buy these in a PC store very cheap and they are easy to place in your computer. For example the CD-Writer (Lite On) I payed Apple about 300 euro and in the PC store they are sold for 65 euro....
Apple will bring out new models two times a year. Every time Apple comes with a new model your computer is loosing 30% of its value....
I suggest that you buy a PC or a complete stripped off second hand G4.

ok well now that you brought PCs into this... What is the best PC maker that will give the best Video editing suite? I use Final Cut and DVD studio pro both only run on a Mac. I know Premire pretty good and After effects, I used them at school on a few projects, but I really want to make the jump to DVD making. I have ton of old videos I need to edit down for some clients, to then send off and have them made into completed DVDs for mass use. What software for a PC does this the best? Also where can I get a good deal on a New Powermac G4? The apple site is over priced by alot when I see the same unit on EBAY.

dont listen to anyone else. if u want the G4, get it.
there are rumors of new processors (G5's ?) with mhz comparable to PCs (in number only) built by IBM, i believe. even though a 966mhz apple is comparable to a 2ghz PC, apple still wants those customers who dont know anything about how a computer really worls, which is almost everyone, to look at the ghz and think they are both the same. most people think the processor really shows how fast the computer is. damn, my roomate had an SGI with a 200mhz processor that blew everything away..... and this was only a few years ago. i would wait to see if they announce anything at the ADC in june.
oh, and premiere sucks. you will hate it, especially after using Final cut. trust me!
