Hey everyone, this is a call for help amoungst my fellow NTers. I'm currently working a site for a free lance photojournalism agency. I'm NOT getting paid for it and I joined in, basically for the experiance, I know a few guys involved through my work and kinda got swept up in the wurl wind.
Anyway the problem is I want this site to rock. The photos are AMAZING, this group has people all around the world that are absolutley brilliant photojournalists. Because I'm not getting paid for it, I really don't have to much time to make multiple layouts and basically take time away from other jobs, and you know...paying rent, food and school bills.
So, what I ask of you, my friends, is for your ideas, thoughts and hopes for a site like this. What would YOU like to see design, fucntion, content and otherwise when it comes to a site like this?
I know this may seem like I'm just being lazy, but i have my own ideas and a few layouts, but I just want to do this right and I know you guys have the knowhow and experiance to help me out. Thanks a lot.

Of course!
I was talking in terms of ideas and suggestions, but any help would be great and credited, I'll list everyones name and URL on the site, would that be cool?

Why don't you post some comp ir ideas for us to decide which is the best rather than just "talking about " it?

vrybdlydrwn,
... first and foremost -- don't get too conceptual with this site. Keep it clean....
... let the work speak for itself as it's not the 'entity' of one person... but that of many photojournalists.
Keep to a clean & easy navigation grid system... very geometric and very well organized.
Clean typography... something swiss -- a condensed helvetica or one of the DIN fonts -- or even a nice aksidenz grotesque.
Super-simple and functionable. The imagery is number one given the people and the work you're showcasing.
I've said my peace - my work is done here.

The last post is right. Being too eager can hurt you.
If it's a real headache, I would threaten to not complete the site. If they don't care - then they don't even need a website. End of story - move on. Otherwise hold them up for a some cash.
In the future, always try to get SOMETHING for your work. And it needs to be more then experience. When people pay nothing, it devalues your work and they don't need to take the project seriously.
Would you expect to get a haircut for free from a friend that is a stylist? Or get a free portrait taken from a photographer?
My 2 Cents.
