Preston: I think Stephen Malkmus (former singer in Pavement) new band is called Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks and not Silver Jews...
Other good bands to add to the list:
Comet Gain
Belle and Sebastian
The Smiths
Ramones

how can you say those bands arent "indie"?
and almost all music is emo.
these labels on music are lame and i think we all know what kind of music we are talking about when someone says indie or emo.
dont try and make yourself look cool cause you are more "indie" than the rest of us. dork.

I haven't posted at NT since the password thing broke, but this thread made me have to put in my two cents.
Bands heinously overlooked so far:
Cat Power (the goddess. go to http://www.moonpix.com for more)
Black Heart Procession
Songs: Ohia
Calla (mentioned I know)
Blonde Redhead (pure genious)
Cornelius
Ms. John Soda (if you like Postal Service, you will like this)
Jeremy Enigk (good for Isaac Brock fans)
Kristin Hersh
Throwing Muses
The Microphones
Mirah
Notwist (another one Postal Service fans would like)
Sleater Kinney of course
UnwoundGoodness all round..

Oh come on fogle, I wasn't out to start a fight. I just mentioned that Indie and Emo are two different genres, and Modest Mouse and Death Cab for Cutie are Emo bands.
I've been a musician in an indie band for 7 years, and I just don't understand why someone would say something like "all bands are emo" when indie and emo are obviously TOTALLY different genres.
