Ok i'm trying to overlay flash animation (not flat) onto video (AE FCP...whatever can do it)
When i import my swfs into AE, it flattens them with a white b/g, is there anyway to do this with out the b/g? This shouldn't be this difficult. Can ya help me out?

you have to export the frames as a PNG seq. After Effects will import all the files in seq.

export all frames and layers together, or each layer at a time?
what about any particular PNG settings that might help.
sorry, but i don't have the net @ home right now, so i'm trying to fill up on info b4 i go....thanks again

just bring it into AE or FCP with a white background, then choose "multiply" for the transfer mode on that layer (with the swf).
multiply will knock out the white and leave the rest.
if there is white in your animation, just make the background a color that isn't in the anim, then key the color out. that works too.

i did the multiply composite, that made part of my animation transparent, even the darker colors, i'm going for an exact overlay. no transfer mode.
i hope the PNG will do what i need it to do. not ripping, but same type of vector overlay as www.fourstoreyshigh.com/bboy/

did you try a color key in FCP? you should be able to pull it off with that method...

dude I told you how to do it...just export the frames from flash as pngs, export 1 frame to check your settings. Once you get the image the way you want it to look export the whole movie as PNG frame seq. When you import one frame into after effects it askes you if you want to import the entire seq and it makes a movie out of your layers...dude did you even try this?

yeah man, i haven't been able to figure out how to get all my frames to export. I didn't see an option for PNG seq. just PNG image. i'm using flash MX for mac. The first frame as PNG img looked right tho...it'm definately getting closer!

you have to goto export movie to export all the images at once...export movie pulldown menu has a bunch of options...like eport to quicktime etc...its in there and Im on a mac to using MX...you better show us this when your done!

you could also set the background of the movie to a transparent color (add a swatch of any color, alpha set to 0). then export movie > quicktime (animation compressor works well with vector stuff). make sure format is set to 32-bit alpha channel. import into AE, setting alpha channel to straight-unmatted in the dialog box.
works well here, osx / flash mx / ae 5.5
