I ride almost daily.
But I only have XT. :(

oh, but you can be a pro with XT. my previous bike (Bulls) had Deore - after 6 months of riding it was completely broke.

anyone have any opinions on forks? i just picked up a kona dawg and i want to upgrade the stock marzocchi exr forks with something more responsive... i haven't shopped for bike components in a long time. i've heard fox makes the best forks?

One thing I dont see on the site is the New XTR wheelset. I saw one in the bike store on the weekend. SMOKIN!!
I think the $$$ I’m going to be putting out on my next ride just went up $2000 because of all this new stuff.

Paul,
Depending on the type of riding you do you have a couple of options. If I recall, the 'Dawg' is a trail bike right?
The Sherman line from Manitou looks nice. Super stiff and superior damping qualities. I think that they've got a lockout so you can go from 4 to 5 inches or vice versa. http://www.answerproducts.com
If you want Marzocchi and single crown, go for something like the z1 series. I had a 2001 Dropoff on my old hardtail and it was the best single crown fork I've ever had. If you've got hydraulic brakes, think about going with a 20mm qr20 axle for added stiffness. If you want a double clamp, go Super T. I run last year's Monster T, but that's too much fork for epic style rides.
Stay away from Rock Shox. Maintenance levels typically are higher than Marzocchi...
Holy long post.

All this shop talk is making me nostalgic...
I used to race both, cross-country and downhill. But I don't even ride anymore. It's been about 6 or 7 years since I rode last.
Number of factors I guess. My bike got destroyed (I went into an underground parking structure with it on top of my car... don't laugh) and never had the money to buy a replacement. Then I lost touch with most of my riding buddies. My good friend that I used to ride with moved to another state. Then I moved away to college and nobody rode there. I exchange mountain biking for drinking binges. Now I just sit here and post on PV-AN...
Gawd... I'm such a loser...!!

no money to buy a new mountainbike? here in Holland you can buy a Mongoose in every cheap supermarket (do you know the ALDI supermarkets?) for just 250 Euro (= US Dollar).
but if you want real quality - you have to buy yourself a (custom)hand-built Santos SCC 02.

Love the new XTR. I've only got an ancient (antique?) Fat Chance from about 8 years ago. Just screwed my back up again, riding...and it's in the 80's today...ugh...
Nice site, too. ;-)

I had a sweet Ritchey (back then), I wouldn't have had the heart to replace it with some cheap bike.
Plus, I'm not in holland... I was living in the U.S. at the time and for $250 you couldn't get anything half way decent.
Plus, I didn't even have $250 at the time...

my bike is worth more then my old car.
