Does anyone have any magazine design experience? I have tons of quark/illustrator experience- working on large documents like booklets and brochures with style sheets, master pages, etc., but I've never actually worked on a magazine. Is there anything I should know or anything different about working with this media, or should it be fairly straightforward based on the experience I have.

it's pretty easy. just don't get the page numbers mixed up. Just common sense really. The deadlines can be brutal sometimes and the changes are numerous, but you should be ok.
