Ok people I would like your opinion on this if you can, its important to me.
I have been in graphic design for 5 years now and have worked in London all of my
career so far.For the last 6 mouths I have been unemployed and it got me thinking. How long will my career last
in advertising. I look around me and I just see a lot of young people between the ages of 25-35 doing design and to be honest with you I am a bit scared.I am 31 at the moment so I am not too sure how long I have left to be a designer. Also there is security and what
it means to me. This is the thing I hate about advertising, and we properly all now how insecure the industry can be
when there is a hint of recession around the corner. The creative are the first people too go.So here I am now and not to sure what too do. I do love my career as a graphic designer and fill lucky that I can do a job I love but at what cost.
I just fill a bit scared for my future.

You have to move up, Become a developer, Administer web servers, start your own hosting company & offer design. It's rough so you better start now, BTW you will still be broke for another 2 years atleast.

he's a graphic designer, why would he want to administer webservers and start his own hosting company?
The important thing is to keep us informed with SheepNews, we've been waiting for more pics and tales of the woolly one.

The fact that you are concerned will probably keep you okay... just keep at it.

Web design is a very fresh, i dont know, 7-6 (or less?) years old business field. So, "young people between the ages of 25-35 doing design" should not suprise you.

Average age will move up with time

mikhail, I think you misunderstood. He said he's a graphic designer, and graphic design has been around a while...
Most graphic designers move up to art directors and such... So if you're competent and experienced, I don't think you have anything to fear.

I think your concern is legitimate but if you are good at what you do and constantly moving forward, trying to grow and learn every second of every day, open to change, you will be fine.
Traditionally, the advertising industry requires a careful mix of fresh, young blood and experienced blood to make it really excel.
