How do you guys feel about doing spec. work to win a client? I hate it.

it's usually not worth the time or energy. And your lucky if you actually get paid.

Don't do it!
:P

they'll never respect you and always want to pay less.

Do it if you need the portfolio pages, or if you want to help someone out. But if you see them saying they're skint and then snorting coke through rolled-up bank bonds, crush them and walk away.

Fucking hate it...I always doing with the feeling that they are going to dismmiss anything I show them... (well, I´m a crappy designer anyway...)

Companies shouldn't profit from free work. As designers/businessmen ourselves how often do we ask our suppliers to operate at a loss. Most of us wouldn't because it's fucking ridiculous.

according to RGD Ontario: it is evil. spec work works in a field like architecture, where there are multi-million dollar contracts on the line, but in graphic design, its not worth the designers while.
I don't mind building up quick prototypes of sites before I work out the particulars with a client... but the last time I did that, I got fucked.... so not anymore

This hs been brought up before. Doesnt the GAG handbook or AIGA something also say "DONT DO IT"?
