and we know how pampered and safe these US journalists are.
- pr20
if constant repetition of lies such as "war in Iraq = war on terror" and "Saddam = guy responisble for 9/11" spoken by Bush convince over %45 of people then constant repetition of "No war in Iraq" might work the other way.
It does make a difference.
...Anyway, about the killing, that's what happens when you give guns and tanks to 20 year old teens and force them to make life and death decisions.
- Jamesh0
I don't think the Iraqi troops were aiming for the reporter in particular, unlike the hotel attack it was coincidental.
The driver ran the vehicle into the canal. The reporter drowned.
If you were a reporter, would you rather be in a US tank or a building in downtown Iraq....ask any iraqi civilian the same question.
- mrdobolina0
yeah, the US really needs the bad press right now, so why not kill all of the reporters who are talking bad about them, please please pull your head out of your ass. Al Jazeera has been able to walk freely around iraqi soldiers, so why wouldnt they be in the same hotel as iraqi snipers?
- Jamesh0
That hotel is full of journalists even from the west.
What's a 'little bad press' when killing journalists keeps you from having 'alot of bad press'.

- mrdobolina0
are you in iraq, jamesh?
- kpl0
The driver ran into the canal because they were under fire by iraqi troops.
plus they don't embed reporters in tanks, so turn off your hysterics please. US reporters are at risk just like any other journalist in Iraq.
*goes and kills another squirrel. bare hands, incidentally.

First... There weren't any snipers at the hotel. Second... Al Jazeera reporters were not at the Palestine, they have (at this time I'd say they HAD) their own building. Third... You're one of those assholes who make me wanna wish an american soldiers' massacre. YOU CAN'T EVER SHOOT A BUILDING WHERE JOURNALISTS ARE TRYING TO DO THEIR DUTY: KEEPING US INFORMED WHILE THE DIRTY WAR PROPAGANDA (THAT INCLUDES CNN AND FOX NEWS) TRIES TO MISINFORM US. I'm a journalist, and I do hope that the soldiers who were on that tank get caught, tortured and killed by iraqi troops. Can't take it? FUCK YOU, american piece of shit.
- Jamesh0
you guys are right. my bad.
Tanks shooting at a hotel full of reporters is proper protocol.
Sending troops in their to root out the alledged 'sniper' would not make much sense.
I guess they never found the body of the 'snipers'?
- unknown0
Don't try to explain, Jamesh, they just won't understand 'cause they don't want to understand. Stupid blind patriotism has taken the country with the biggest military power in history. Scary, isn't it? Who are the terrorists? No doubt for me...
- kpl0
first: you're prejudicing non-us sources over us sources. as a journalist, you should know that you check on both and not decide. Unless you're a first-hand witness, you don't have much credibility in setting the record.
second: who are you talking to? me? if so, I'm arguing against the notion that us reporters are in safety.
third: would you like a hug?
- Jamesh0
You don't have to be a first hand witness to know that a TANK fired on that hotel (to kill an alledged sniper who is not going to defeat a tank) INSTEAD of sending in a tactical team to root him out.
US reporters are not targets. Non-US reporters are. That is the point you are missing.
- unknown0
I wa talking to this mrdobolina piece of shit, the one who said "it's war zone, so you can't expect to be safe". Sorry, but mainly because I'm a journalist I know I can't trust american media (at least most of them). Have you seen, for example, Fox News? That doesn't even deserve to be called journalism. Goebbels would have not made it better. Yes, I'm comparing this whole situation to the nazi regime, 'cause that's what Bush and the other bastards are (including the Fox News' big shots and all those who are doing propaganda, not journalism): NAZIS.
- kpl0
Whether or not the tank should had fired on the hotel is not relevant, Centcom already said on hindsight it was not the best way to deal with the sniper.
If you want to say there never was a sniper there in the first place and the tank deliberately fired onto the bldg for shits and giggles, there you need proof. And you haven't investigated, centcom hasn't, and I haven't heard of one from CNN or Al-Jazeera yet. So it's quite too early for outrage, cos its entirely possible you're wrong.
If you want to get mad about the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade, go ahead, all the facts are in.
- kpl0
and please don't tell me Fox News is any better than Al-Jazeera or any of the populist arabic news services that are reporting on any israeli tie to the war.
and actually, there are some FUCKING americans who don't watch Fox News, who don't necessarily support the war, and are tired to headstrong and mindless foreigners blasting them for no apparent reason other than being american.
ahem. I need a hug.

As a journalist you should be ashamed of yourself. Namecalling won't get you anywhere. It helps others turn off their ears to what you want to say.
Be cool. State facts and use your choice of words carefully.
Shit, i shouldn't even have to write this as you, a journalist, should already know this.
- Jamesh0
"Centcom already said on hindsight it was not the best way to deal with the sniper."
Yeah I guess not.
And it sounds alot better than "Screw those assholes anyway! Show THIS carnage."
Every reporter there said they have heard of NO sniper shots coming from the hotel. You would think a hotel of reporters would have heard gunshots and would want to be the first to get the scoop so I doubt they are lying.
But I bet the US will investigate and give us ALL the details. I can't wait!
- Jamesh0
*hugs KPL.
- kpl0
you're hysterical, jamesh. logic is not on your side, and I'm not going to bother anymore...
- Bluejam0
To be fair to the military, they're in a difficult situation. Under pressure by the dandy diplomats to give the bloody thirsty masses a quick war and keep ratings high whilst maintaining safety for themselves...
...shoot first, ask questions later is probably their best defence... especially in a city of five(?) million and some 100,000 missing enemies (iraqi army?).
