What do you do if you absolutely hate hate hate hate hate the clients idea? There is nothing very "wrong" with the idea but you just hate it because it is plain ugly and you would feel embarassed to have such work associated with your name.
Any comments would be appreciated.

What I usually do is say "they pay me money" out loud to myself

Show him the options. On paper. Objectively. Explain gently.
If that doesn't work, rip his nipples off.

Kill him. For the sake of humanity, kill him now.

make it even worse and have fun with it! I mean it! Make the whole thing so hilarious, so that your client either totally loves you or lets you do your idea.

Although seriously, I never shy away from telling a client that what they have is shockingly ugly. That way, you might be able to sell them a replacement :)

Ahhhgh! I feel your pain Saf.
If I were you, I'd try and educate him, show him some alternatives, tell him that you can include a fun aspect in the site design (wich is obviously what they want) but can do it in a way that doesn't look like the results of a 12 year old kid with a pair of scissors and some business magazines...
Failing that, just do what he wants as quickly as fukken posible and move on. Do pass go and do collect £200.
:)
