Hey everyone,
Working on a site and I could really use some help. The site is for student photojournalist Glenn Luther. He is currently on Assignment in Afghanistan for Kent State University and a number of 'professional' photo and news agencies.Anyway I've been working on the site for a few weeks now, probably not as hard as I should have been, but yeah. The site is supposed to be simple, the photos are what are supposed to dominate.
Explanation of layout. Glenn sends me weekly dispatches of text and images. The dispatch you want to view can be selected from a pull down in the upper right hand corner of the window. The rest of the site is pretty self explanatory. Any suggestions are more than welcome. PLease comment..
check out the layout at:

It looks very nice, the only problem i have is that the gutter for the text isnt wide enough. the text is crammed upo against the egdes top and bottom too much. Looks nice tho, i like the colors

thanks a lot sexy, the text that's their for now is filler, well I'm sure you figured that out, but i mean the style - would you like to know when actually get it up? The photos are amazing!

Hi vrybdlydrwn.
With such emotionally charged topics as your friend's photos it would be nice to see some elements of Afganistan, war, etc. in the actual design. Clean and simple is great but what makes this site different from say a designer's portfolio site? Where's the concept?
- sexypixel0
ya, let me know. So how is he finding afghanistan? Do the people theyre trust the US troop yet?
I would love to see the site when its ready. The photo there now looks great, I love that post-duststorm type haze.

Yeah, looks great. Only two things I don't like...
The body copy font is "wrong", try something crisper, and... do you HAVE to use those 45 degree lines in the bg?
Other that that, smooth going :)

Skunkfish:
What type of elements would you suggest. I'm actually also working on Glenns personal site, and that one is actually more conceptual. Do you have any ideas on how i can incorporate those elements without taking away from the simplicity of the site?Sexy:
In short, the people he has met have been great to him, there is a high level of distrust though when it comes to troops. The bombing is still going on and he is consantly under pressure to protect himself but still document his story. He's the kinda guy who strives under this kind of pressure, and i think the photos will show.Atle:
The body copy will be changed. And no, I don't have to use those lines. To tell you the truth...I'm not even sure why I did..more reason to get rid of them i would guess.thanks everyone! keep em' coming!

Hey dude. fair enough.
I was thinking of something that captures the essence of his work. Here's an example of something I was thinking about. The theme of the design isn't that far away from the photos of your friend. What does he want to say with is photos? Is he trying to make a statement or are they more photojournalistic?
- vrybdlydrwn0
skunkfish, his work is more along the photojournalistic lines. What elements would you suggest?

I like your variation.its very neat.
colors are great too, kind reminds me of the site I did last summer for my travelogue.

looking forward to seeing yours live.

thanks oculasm, I really like your site, I remember when you were throwing up variations for your layout. Good ol' NT times. I'll drop you an e-mail when the site goes live.

Newer version looks great.
I agree with skunkfish, that it needs 'something' to set it apart a little more. The colours are nice, but maybe too passive? Maybe try something stronger for more impact.. something that will reflect the potential impact of the entries.Clean is nice... but war is messy.
Boy, this critique stuff is hard to put into words.
Good luck!

more nudity

LOL

k. on a serious note.... i like the direction it's going.
stick with the greys... really sets a tone with the topic/subject of the site and portrays the message well.
good layout and work even without nudity. although as your legal advisor i would suggest some nudity.
- vrybdlydrwn0
nudity...that's an idea..haha, I'll bring it up to glenn. I'm sure he'll be down. Thanks guys!

cheers mate, good luck with it and let us know when you have it finished.
