you guys use any kind of firewall? does it happen if you use mozilla/netscape/pheonix?
- toulouz0
yes i am using the freebie zone alarm firewall.
i will try it with it shut down later to see if that makes any difference

nah, i surfed, then used word and it would not surf again without reboot.
I switched off zonealarm, then norton anti virus, then kontici with still no result.
IE comes up with this message at the bottom of page "Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer "Any ideas would be appreciated please?

First of all as I noticed Zone Alarm and Norton Firewall make those problems. I was on Windows XP and had NPF2003 then uninstalled NPF and installed Zone Alarm 3.0 Pro. I had problems like IE and NN7 would work but when I installed NN6,NN48,Opera7, all of them wouldn't access the internet afterwards. So I decided to uninstall Zone Alarm too...Bum Bum..everything works flawlessly now. My advice..keep you NAV on and forget about software firewalls. If you really need them then buy router with firewall, since that would be a good investment anyways if you want to expand.
Cheers.

pugdawg,
as for buying a Mac, I was at the Mac store yesterday since I was shopping in the mall and just entered the store to take a look at that 17" powerbook. While I was waiting for the salesperson, I stopped by the best G4 they had there. I start playing around with Photoshop, checked the new Sherlock and then everything started freezing up. The whole system crashed.
Let me ask you something. If this happens in Apple store on their best computer, I have to admit that there is NO reason for anyone to switch, since the system obviously has problems as Windows XP has.
I sincerely think that Mac people lie about their machine not crashing. Or they lie to themselves.

well i'm running winxp with NPF2003 and NAV 2003, with no probs. i'm running to comps with this setup. check your internet options.
in connections > LAN Settings, make sure everything is unchecked
