My best friend is in Iraq right now, and I thought that everyone in the NT family --for and against the war-- would find this letter home worth reading.

toilets and guns; yeah those where the things that worried me the most too when I did time. We still had to join by law back then.
SO, the guy is not doing any good from the place I´m sitting. Hope he´ll make it; but why is he there again?Thanx for sharing it, though.

You don't have to be at war to do charity.

Got a letter too. Form the past though, but their voices are so clear to me still.

It's kinda sad how naive and interesting how he views it all, a feeling of doing it "right thing" by being there, and the cold love for 120mm tank rounds, .50 caliber machine guns, 155mm artillery rounds eliminating Iraqi "personnel"
"I know it's the right thing when we pass the Iraqi children and families lining the road pointing to their mouths and bellies and the elation on their faces when we throw them MRE crackers..."
I wonder if he knows up to a few weeks ago Baghdad was a 1000 year old city, more cosmopolitan than London, and the fabled historical center for all modern mankind...
thanks for sharing, i wish him all the best and hope he get's back home sooner rather than later...

Robotron:
It's interesting how we view this letter in different lights. You see him as naive. I see him as brave. What you call a "cold love" for guns and mortar rounds, I see as nothing more than him describing what is going on. He doesn't say "It was so cool to fire 120mm tank rounds." What is wrong with the term "personnel"? That's what they are.
Anyway, interesting.

Firstly, i wish him godspeed and hope he is home tomorrow, or as soon as possible.
Thanks for sharing this letter.Secondly, i am totally against this war, and when i read these letters that view gets strengthened. The US army fighting Iraq is like a 25yo bodybuilder fighting a baby. War solves nothing...period. I feel bad for those that have to do the dirty work or spineless, heartless politicians 1000's of miles away.
