Fuck sake Marling - a bit over the top I think.
"blatant bastardization" - calm down a bit. Do you know the people that made the ad or there reason for doing it?
Maybe you're right and it's a rip-off, or maybe it's a homage and the original makers are cool about it. Either way chill out.
I saw the original thing in the Pompidou Centre and it's brilliant. I had been looking for it, cheers for the link.
I wonder how many goes they had at it. It's like a sopued up version of the domino rally's you used to see on Record Breakers.
In fact I hate to see such a blatant bastardization of the domino rally's from the 70's

The originator of that whole type of chain reaction machine was a cartoonist from the early part of the last century named Rube Goldberg. Just in case you care.

Cheers loopyd. I wonder who he stole it from.

We have a swedish commercial when a happy family uses a machine like this to take their vitamin pills.
Anyway, I think it works as a commercial, gives you a feeling of precision, but in a humble way. Good payoff.

Art was made to rip off.

I agree with marling
I was bothered whenI saw that too. I dont think the general public will know about the Video "the way things go"
I don't think it was an homage when Honda is making money off their art.
BTW the original has some cuts in there. it didn't work for the whole 20 min. there were some cross dissolves to hide the mistakes.
Just my 2 cents I like the video though I hope the the artists got some money out of it.

That's right Err - I forgot that artists aren't interested in making money from their work.

To those of you saying the Honda spot looks like CG, it's probably worth pointing out that there was no CG involved and it took over 600 takes to get it right.
