to all the full time freelancers and/or 1-2 person mini-firms out there... how have you all been prospecting new work recently?
people are tight with their money right now— what have you all been noticing?
I've been forced to do a lot of small websites [coming from a print background], because they're easier to come by and easier to sell right now...
I'm also experimenting with freelance sales people... what's been working for you all?

We've had to rehire several people cos we got too much work now!!
Paychecks for another couple of months!!

too much work— well damn, that sounds nice. how's the UK economy in general? things have slowed way down in the US recently...

We're in Chicago.
Although most of our business is not Chicago based. Luckily we got a parent company with offices in all the major cities and we're using their client base to get work.
- blastofv0
cool, so you're subcontracting creative work for a bigger parent company?
i'm finding the partnership route to be pretty promising

Actually I have a lot of work right now, and it's not just smaller projects. Just talk, to everything and everybody about you and your business. Never give up.

Run naked through the business district with your URL written on yer arse.
That'll get you noticed.

I had been going purely on word of mouth for about a year now and things had steadily been slowing down. So I decided that I would look for a job. Once I decided that I would look and began to put my portfolio together potential work seems to be rushing in. So the secret is let the gods know you want to stop doing this work and being gods they naturally want to screw you. apparently the gods are mildly retarted.

I think one of the best plans is to find firms that can't do what you can do, and aproach them about using your skillset to expand their service list.
I've built up some really profitable relationships with some brand/print agencies that mercenary me out on an as-needed basis so that they can offer interactive, backend and video services to their clients.
