Has anyone used it? is it as helpful as it sounds? Thinkin about using it on a community site that Im dev'n soon.

HMMM.
A client asked me for a website with a content management system. I checked out a few and Contribute is excellent.
You install it on the users machine and as long as they know basic word processing they will be able to update their site content.
You can create users and give them limited privelages - like text only editing etc.
cost $100 and saved me a load of grief.

It's great for clients who don't want --or who you don't want-- to mess witht the markup.

I guess it is effective for that side of things. But it takes away from the work we do, that's what I don't like about it.

Agh - fucking contribute. A potential new client of mine has already bought it before commissioning her site redesign. I borrowed it to check it out - it's basically dreamweaver for your dad. My problem with a site content managed in this way is that there's no database and you don't end up with any archived content - so instead of your site growing as time goes on into a more and more useful resource it just stays the same size with different content in it.

not sure how it could take away from what 'we' do - if anything it gets clients off our backs - not calling us to make stupid text changes etc.

in functionality it's similar to what you can do with XML sockets in Flash, enabling changes without having to change the .fla every single time.

thanks all. I think I'll give it a try. I want the users to be able to update their info without having to go thru me every few days. these guys are non programmers. No money in it for me so this might be the best solution.
