Need to save my palette positions so I won't have to re-arrange them every time I launch.
Help Please!

Any reason you are living in the past? illustrator 11 is almost out!
Anyway, you might try trashing your prefs. And then arranging your pallets the way you wish. Then quit out of ill and relaunch it. See if they are still where you want them.

make sure you don't have a document open or even a blank page when you do what dopepope suggests.

8 does what i need for the time being. not opposed to upgrading, just not the most money hungry idea I have to spend on at the moment.
Thanks for the help! This is my first day posting. been watching for a long time!

I understand zoiks. I just feel that if you let too many versions go by without getting with one, when you finally do upgrade, you will be at a loss for what the new features do and how to use them efficiently. But what ever works...

Illusrator 8 forever! I've been on 8 since like 1999. I know I need to upgrade, but it's so easy to get into a routine with the familiar... and the cash issue is always a major holdup.
Is it better to bootleg the new stuff, or wait until cash flow allows for you to afford it? [I'm trying to run a legitimate business here, but it's difficult]

hey, do what works. The industry isn't going to wait around for you to catch up though, so try to upgrade when you can. That's all I'm saying. And sometimes the upgrade can chop that routine in half with it's new features. (imagine the joy when PS introduced layers) I understand your views 100% though. I know professionals still using PS4.

It's certainly will vary from bloke to bloke, but in my case I stay a step or two (or three) behind in the arena of software.
Sometimes you just got to bite it and pay the piper if the version is too cool to pass up...

yeah, agreed. Luckily for you illustrator 9 and 10 haven't been that AMAZING that you HAD to upgrade. but hopefully 11 will be.

Do PCs use a pref file like a Mac. Im on a PC (unfamiliar).
Is there a place I can go and trash the prefs on a PC?

i have 8 and 9 on my work machine but prefer the efficiency and reliability of 8. i use 10 at home though. a little rant - my main bitch with 9 and 10 is features that are not supported by post script rips such as transparency. why have it if you can't output it? i know you can flatten objects, but still the feature can get you into trouble. also, the appearance palette is a little whacky. whatever works though.
