I'm looking to make a logo with a similar effect as the Lucent logo seen here:
What I'm refering to is the brushed-on look. Does anyone know if there is some type of effect in Illustrator to achieve this look, or if it's a matter of individually placing little smudge and splatter marks of out separate shapes? I know this could be done in PhotoShop fairly easily, but I'm going to want a master .ai file in Illustrator.

Use brushes. Very easy to do.

using brushes will look like shit.
paint with a sumi brush and india ink and scan the shit.
