Does any use a laptop with the ati mobility radeon 9000?
If so, I was wondering whats the highest refresh rate you can get on an external monitor at 1600x1200?
hopefully 85mhz or higher?

my powerbook runs my extra monitor at 1600x1200 @85Mhz. And it is the older 32 meg on the 800 version..

good to hear.
I just ordered a Thinkpad T40p, comes with a 64MB Radeon 9000 fire GL, it's certified for Maya, 3dsmax5, etc but would like to hear from someone first hand.
The refresh rate was my other concern, as anything lower than 85mhz screws with my precious eyes. The ability to run 1600x1200 in Dual monitor config is great.
I was actually gonna get the new PB 1ghz (15.2 inch LCD), but untill Apple dumps Motorola and throws an x86 or PPC 970 in there, Im not touching the shit. It'd be like buy a brand new pentium 2 or something... old technology blows.
Love OSX thou... really do.

On a related topic, ATI announced at CeBit that they are going to start selling OEM mobile video cards to consumers to upgrade laptops. The technology thats lets em do this is called "Flexfit"...
Basically, the new cards are pin compatible with the old ones, and share the same BIOS config.
I read that the mobility 9000 is Flexfit... wondering if this means that Ill be able to upgrade to the 9600 or whatever (or was it 9700...). I know that the new 9600 is AGP 8x as compared to the AGP 4x of the 9000, is the AGPx dependant of the Mobo or is it soley on the card?

i have a 16 mb ati radeon card in my laptop. it gets 85hz at 1600, but the picture breaks up. so i run iat 1280X1024.
i will never buy another ati card though, the drivers are real buggy where i will set the res and refresh on the second monitor but its clearly not right. and the card frequently crashes to 256 color. this is my second bad experience with ati.
you should have better luck with a 64 meg card though.
