just saw on tv that there's gonna be mp4's...
an mp3 is 10% of the original
an mp4 is 10% of that...mp4 = 1% of original audio file.
get you swap on...
napster?
to the music biz, more like, holycrapster...that was lame, sorry.
*waiting for JazX

ok only problem is that quality will probably go down. At least I would think that. Great idea for more compression though I would think. :)

i don't think it degrades at all...at least we wouldn't notice...just like mp3's.
the show was really interesting...
it was talking about how the ear can't hear low and high pitched sounds at the same time, so mp3 just get rid of the lower pitch sounds, therefore decreasing file size...i'm no musician, nor do i really play with audio, but it sounded good to me!

.mp3's are a great idea and it sounds like, no pun intended, that mp4's will also work out, but trust me, there is definitely a difference between listening to something that is exported as a .wav file and a .mp3 file. But all is good. Thanks for the info man. The CD is finally being produced by http://www.discmakers.com you for sure be getting one. I got your name down bro with about 10 other people here.

thanks homie...
congrats on finally getting them produced!much luck on the miniml site i saw you are working on...

thanks, that was just a conceptual thing. I'll overhaul it and make it a freebie site, just some fun for people, but who knows it might get popular, but I'll always keep it free. It's more fun. Same to you, I like that new design you've come up with and the Flash for it too.

mp4 is already out and it's a video technology. not that many people seem to use it but it's a pretty good rival to divx if you ask me.

see, don't listen to me...

oh, thanks Jaz...
i'll let ya know when i get my shit...i mean my site together...

i'll be happy when something like that comes out... i've been using mp3 and ogg technology to compress all my mp3s and that's one of the sole reasons to have 200 gigs of space in my comp.
makes me uneasy because it's a pain to backup and if i lose it it'll take forever to backup.
go mp4 tech!

i dunno man - i must have dog ears or something because most mp3s sound like crap to me... my friend was in a band and he said they'd record - then they have to "dumb it down" and take out all this juicy sound so when it's played on the radio, it sounds good even in a ford's stock stereo.. which sucks because there are sooo many layersin the good stuff

isn't that high-/lowpitch removal something that ATRAC on minidisc has been using all along? anyways, regarding mp3's, it's important to have a good codec too. 56kbps w/fraunhofer codec sounds almost as good as 160kbps, which is not bad if you're using a mp3 walkman or similar, really hard to notice the difference.

and the next step up is:
the mp5
... to shoot people with while listening to hip-hop music

we think mp3's sound fine because we've gotten used to cd's over the years.
cd's are actually a crap representation of the original sound - loads of audio information is missing on a cd. mp3's range from slightly worse than cd's to awful (depending on the quality recorded at)
compare the same album on vinyl to a cd and see how much more you can hear on the vinyl.
having said that, most consumer stereos wont actually be capable of reproducing the higher quality recordings - and most consumers don't care anyway *sigh

lets just get back to K7

very true StyleJunky, vinyl records are actually the fullest, thickest, warmest, analog based sounds you can get. CD, are crappy and .mp3's worse, not to bust anyone's bubble or anything. :)

2inch analog mastering tape is better than vinyl ;)
the prob with cd's is the 16bit 44khz limitation.
24bit / 96khz is so close in quality to the original master recording (captures more of the actual sound) that human ears can't hear the difference - i hope all music will be released in that format soon.

yeah they have to do something to make it better, CD's are pure crap. All of the music I make and export is done in 16-bit / 44kHz. Your right about the limitations we have as humans too! :)

I had no idea about 2inch long mastering tape though, that must be heavily used in studios...?

...
imagine a mp4 player with 1 Gb ... this would give about a 'zillion' music tracks library...
wonder if there are any sufficent musics in the world to fill up these music players memory...just a thought...

those days are coming kodap, and they already probably have something like this, but think about it, it wouldn't be healthy for that market. They want you to keep buying replacements and extra space and shit like that. Same goes for Cars and Oil. :(
