im on a mission to moan today. flash is actually shite, and i dont care what anyone says. i come from a director background and the timeline is so much more user friendly. i just can't understand flash timeline, it's shit, annoying, irritating, temperamental...grrrr
and i've been using it on and off for years now and i still don't understand what the fuck is going on with it!!!!!!!!!!!???*sigh*

No it's not. I work with both for years (since 1999) and each one has got a differente way of work. I guess the trick is personalization of the toolbars. I work with a dual head display, one 19" and a 17". Without them I just can't do anything, both have got a lot of precious tools. About the timeline, well it's a question of habbit, i like the flash more, one can introduce a keyframe easilly than in Director.

no.

yups. Director's much friendlier to use.

when i use director i feel it smiling at me, emitting a warm glow of lovliness all over. when i use flash i feel raped.

Symbols are the same as actors in director.
I've learn flash by myself I can't do it with Director...Why is that?
Fals its much easer, well I prefer the timeline of Media100 but that is another 2 cent! :)
Two display's, I want that!! Buaaaaaaaa Lucky bastard :)

I tell you waht, I'm not building any more whole websites in flash (except the odd minisite). Not beng able to give out absolute URLs, one click of the back button knocking the visitor straight out of the site, components that you take for granted in HTML not being as good in flash, accessiblity / search engine issues - the list goes on. I am going to try and use a mixture of HTML/CSS and flash more often from now on...

Flash is lovely and is my friend. There's ways around all of those little foibles, especially with the new stuff in the MX package.
In fact, I'm going to use flash right now, and laugh while i do it.

thats only because you have started in director and then gone onto flash.Ii've done the same thing but the other way around i luv flash but im finding some things in director a pain in the ass

Director not having nested movie clips is the biggest pain in the ass - wtf are you supposed to do? Also no vector graphics without extreme hassle.

Director is a pain in the ass, imo. I only used it because of the QT support, so I'll probably drop it. I haven't seen MX yet, but not having layers to LOCK was enough for me to hate (every program I use has layers!!).
Flash is my friend - most of the time.

yes, no... maybe so?
