That sucks, most of their products look neatly designed. It must be a fun job besides the no-advantages. If they don't ask for bevels it's good.

yeah, the uni i work for just let 30 of it's faculty go including me.
they also dropped architecture, and museum studies programs due to budget cuts. film, and photography to come. hooray!

fat cats like tommy matola dont care about my rent due...
and the nice salary of the new CEO will help ease the pain of cutting 1000 jobs worldwide.
hey it all looks good on paper. lets see the record sales sky rocket now!

really sorry to hear about your news shellie.
same story everywhere lately it seems...
:(have you been layed off yet?
is there any chance you can squeak through and hang on to the job?if they go totally with the 'downloading' music vibe, won't they have to have designers and web developers working on that sort of thing?
any chance you can get in on that?....

@ exador: actually... sony pictures is hiring and its very very close to the sony music here in santa monica. theyre hiring for the similar posistion i hold here. if my boss doesnt get laid off too and i do... i will ask him to hook me up over there. his old boss heads that division now.
i've been nothing but good to him and a super hard worker so i dont see why not. but my boss is often a fuckwit so who knows what hed actually follow through with. hes fulla empty promises.
@gelund: my rent is far too expencive to be unemployed for more than a few months. i will surely be bankrupt if i cant pick myself up faster than my 8 month unemployed stretch from last year.

some office speak that you will relate to Shellie...
Chainsaw consultant - Outside expert brought in to reduce staff numbers while leaving management intact.
Seagull manager - Executive who flies in to deal with a problem, makes a lot of noise and leaves a lot of excrement.
Brightsizing - A form of redundancy that involves firing the most recently hired staff, who are often the best.
Blamestorming - Sitting around in a group discussing why a project failed and who is at fault.
Decruitment - Firing of staff (opposite of recruitment).
- shellie0
@sexy pixel. the only thing that will help me is the fact that im not staff ( im per diem)... im have no benifits and im pretty much screwed in every way. i work the hardest but get paid very little.. i cost the company barely anything so the company penny pinchers in upper managerment in NY will barely notice me.

this one sums me up:
Permalancer - Permanent employee kept on a freelance contract to avoid giving him company benefits.
- shellie0
sexypixel, thats me!
im a permalancer.
- lind0
Permalancer -- good one -- I'm one too. In addition to no benefits, you have to pay a lot in taxes :(
- shellie0
at least i get my withholds.
- sauerbraten0

Hey Lind, what the building on your homepage? It looks familiar. Is it in Germany?
- lind0
It's the Lloyd Building in London. Architect is Richard Rogers. I saw it last September.
