large images in flash

I'm making an eflyer for a monthly night which is a big long street, with a new section of the street being added every month. I am drawing the scenes in Illustrator and have taken to using bitmaps in flash as the scenes are complex and weren't performing well as vectors. Each image is 800*1900 pixels. You can see the first e-flyer here to give you an idea of what I'm on about:

The problem is that when I add the second image (by dropping it into the background movie clip next to the first) flash doesn't display it properly. Presumably this is because it's too large? Has anyone ecountered this before?

It's probably worth mentioning that flash displays a white rectangle the same size as the image (instead of the image itself).

haven't heard of that... did you get any "flash is low on memory" alerts?
How come the vectors weren't working? Did you try exporting swfs from Illustrator and importing them into flash?

Vectors were working but performance was suffering as the drawings are too complex for slower machines.

You can see the problem in action here:

Fly around a bit - The white section is supposed to be the second image...

what you might try doing is placing each background in it's own MC first, then placing those MC's inside a main background MC (the one that scrolls.)
i've had that problem before, but only when scrolling images that were much larger than the ones you're working with right now
