http://www.rit.edu has a renowned photography department, supposed to be one of the best. They do some great work, and plus Kodak is there, so they are always dumping more money into the program.

I went to one of the art institute school.. big mistake.. really expensive and i could have went to a real art school for the money.. If you have the technical skills.. why are you not just diving in and doing it..??? I ended up quiting school and getting a job as a photographer for a snowboard company.. shooting commerical stuff and illustration type stuff.. great learning lesson... if you are assisting you are getting the basic idea of how the industry works.. I had been shooting for about 3 years before i went to school.. i was a little advanced for the classes i was taking.. but the schooling taught me how to use studio equipment and gave me the confidence to just go for it..

you could check places like this for photographers to work for..
if there is a local chapter in your area..
http://www.asmp.org good.. though the chapter here is made up of grumpy old men.. pretty bad shooters also..
check places like workbook and alt pick.. look for shooters in your area.. call them ask them about assisting..
