Do illustrations HAVE to be done in freehand or Illustrator and do they have to have this flat, 'traced from photographs' look that seems so popular these days?
Just wondering if there was some law that was passed and I missed it??

No law, just a lot of people who like illustrator. And that's not even a problem as far as I can see, so what's the beef?

do it however you want....

it's a trend. that's all. And the good ones require skill to accomplish.

just sick of clicking on Links to look at "illustration" and then getting bored because that kind of thing has been done to death...
- dopepope0
the question here is...who deserves the real credit? The one who created the vectors over the photo...or the photographer of the resource material?

ps. I'm not knocking the people who are the pioneers and originators of this sort of thing - Heck, I even like some of it!!!
Just a shame that people are trying to follow a style or trend - whatever happened to originality, personality + ideas? and yep I know there are hundreds of illustrators who don't follow these rules - thats why I pay more attention to them then the kind of generic thing that seems to be everywhere at the moment!

most of the time I vectorise my own photographs.

a lot of stuff is hand drawn and lo-res looking now. I'm guessing that's cos everyone is sick of the impersonal done to death vector stuff...
drawing is fun!

same problem with a lot of flash design... but there are always trends— everything looks the same for 5 years right after the technology/software goes bigtime, and then people start to get more creative
