I doing a vector assignment at school and using Illustrator to manualy create my images (tracing a photo).
It seems that everybody is using 'streamline'. I have never seen this prog. so am unsure of the outcome.
Is this the norm? Do all these vector super stars use such a program? Therefor am I wasting my time and should I revert to such a program?

I played around with it, and couldn't get any results I liked.
Illustrate.

no, the Superstars do it manually.
unless you want to get the ragged rough or loose effect that Streamline will bring ya.
use Illy. Goodluck!

just draw it by hand...streamline creates waay too many paths, or if you dont have the patience run it through the trace bitmap tool in flash

you can set how much accuracy to which streamline converts bitmaps to vector, i actually like the program.

Its true that streamline does create some rough edges sometimes, but it all depends on the result you want. Advices on handdrawing your image are good, cause you can conrtol your image more. I use rteamline alot, I don´t have a "clean" style, so the unsurtonness of converting through Streamline has become a part of what my work result in.

Use the "Silhouette" 3rd party PlugIn for illustrator, i find it so much more acurate the streamline. Search on google and download, for pc or mac.

Sven Stüber has created some awesome vectorized illustrations based on photos. You can find the illustrations and a tutorial(Portfolio => tutorial) on how to create them under www.vectorize.de
You would never get such pretty results by vectorizing photos automatically with progs like streamline or flash. But, it takes a looooong time...

C´mon guys; be akward, be different. Don´t hours doing tracing, use streamline for that unsurton feeling of whats gonna happen... I´m not going with all that clean cut stuff, I want it rough and dramatic!!
