OK, so, this interesting looking startup want to go into partnership with me....me as one of their freelance designers. They havn't got a portfolio of their own yet (they are sales/marketing guys) and want to use some of my work from my portfolio to demonstrate what their designers are capable of. I think this could be an interesting venture for me but an worried about them using my work as a sales tool. What should I demand from them in return until work starts coming in? There has to be some kind of legal copy accompanying my work (but what?), should I get some kind of basic pay for them being able to use my work for sales pitchs and potentially making moey off it etc? This has the potential to be really good but also soooooo bad...any help would be apreciated before I go to them and ask more questions...set down my conditions etc.

I think you should really ask a lawyer about this. Best if you know one, or someone in your family knows one. Most lawyers will give free phone advice.
Be wary of sales/marketing types, as they are skilled in the art of misdirection.
Always maintain ownership of your work. It is after all, your work. Good luck.

Get it in writing. If it's not on paper, it doesn't exist.
