Thanks guys
Half of the people I talked to at the printer didn't know what I was talking about or didn't speak english. However I found out that they sent my shit to another printer and he assured me that outlines would be fine and then proceeded to yell at me for not putting trim lines and forgetting to bleed one page.
I hate desinging multiple page print crap.

i always work with indesign and do a package/flight check when nescessary.
also, i often export to pdf. some printers do take 'em, and they can embed the font and all...

This printer is still doing it the old Quark eps way.
Damnit
I wanted to go indesign as well but my copy is kinda jinky and Im a lil bitter because the last project I did was in the 2.0 beta version which isn't compatable with the newest indesign.
I am still wating to devote one night to recreating the whole project by cutting and pasting form one version to another.

Also make sure you select everything and turn "filling transparant" off in the tab next to the colour chooser. I had this problem with 8.0 that sometimes when converting a large amount of text to outlines some items gets printed transparant but you cannot see it on screen or a normal print.

Thanks Voutje
Select all? or just the text?

you can convert to paths no problem if it's just an illustrator file without a ton of text. A little bit of text is ok. I've done it before for biz cards, letterheads, and stuff like that.
It only looks bold on screen, but it doesn't print like that.

Thanks anyone got a second opinion b4 I do this. Its kind of a bitchy client and I fudged up too many times befor wih typos and such so I want to make this print go a smooth as possible.
Thanks chilaquil Im converting them to outlines now.

sounds like the outlines trick will work for you. keep in mind that if the proofing process is low end (like an ink jet or something) that the text may still look bold. my experience has been that this error does not occur when it goes to film or on a high end rip though.

you should probably also lock everything on the document before sending to print. last print job i got done the printer moved something, bastid. and the guy thought it was my fault. good thing he got back the cd with the designs on it :-p

I've sent large files with lots of text to printers with all text as curves. It will print out fine, the BOLDness is only onscreen rendering of the text.
Just be sure to ask for a proof after you send it.
