Ok.. so I'm starting to work on some ideas for a facelift/overhaul to one of our companies' sites. And yet again, I'm faced with that burning question.
The home page... to scroll (with the important stuff 'above the fold') or not to scroll (vertically of course)? Designing for 800x600.
Seems like the majority of business sites at the least keep it short (minimum scrolling) on the home page. Personally I hate it if they make me scroll to see nothing... if there's content there that's worthwhile, fine.
Just curious what everyone's thoughts were.

And by home I mean "front".

I didn't design this one, but here is the existing site.

I'm pretty sure we are doing a complete overhaul, content, functionality and all.
I'm just trying to get a head start on design ideas (I've been in developer mode for a few weeks, not design mode). I just asked marketing if there was any print collateral available as a reference point, as well as a list of who they consider their competitors.

I'm actually more interested other designer's opinions on front/home pages (the whole vertical scrolling/no scrolling issue).. trying to see if they actually reflect some of the trends I'm seeing.
