How do they do that?
Do they trace an original image or trace a bitmap...?

usually traced..
put a layer on top or at the bottom...whatever you prefer...and set the transparancy of the bitmap really low, and start tracing.. choose your style... realistic/detailed/raw/cubistic... etc....
