This weeks spill:
i was hanging out with my girl watching tv yesterday. i don't know why i did it, but something urged me to check out MTV. they were playing JLo's new song w/LL Cool J. Damn its hideous.
Anyway, my girl was going off about how JLo isn't even that pretty and it's all make up, lighting and camera tricks.
I agreed with her. Not only do I think JLo looks a lot better on TV then in person ( I went to the grand opening of her restaurant and checked her out for myself), but I hate her primadonna attitude. We also saw a Christina Aguilera video and she was going off on that too.That is besides the point though, do girls actually strive to look like the girls on TV and magazines? Being in the industry that we are in, we know all of the tricks that they use to make people look different on TV. Its the entertainment industry's fault that all of these girls who are perfectly beautiful, don't think they are. They go around wanting to be something that they will never be able to be, not even the people on the covers of mags and on the vids on TV look that good!
I feel sorry for women when it comes to this. Ladies, I'll say it once and I'll say it again...FUCK TV and fuck the world. Don't buy those mags and don't watch those vids. You'll be better off.
and guys. don't feed your women this crap! we know its fake.

I have to admitt I love watching her videos with this amazing option on my hi tec tv set, its called muke? or.. ehmm Rute?
no, wait.. mutt.. damn I dont remember, well it allows me to se her and listening to my favorite music on my stereo.that technique is also good for baywatch.

if they're wearing sweat pants avoid them at all costs. if you know what i mean. ;-)

Well I have seen JLO up close and personal. I work for MTV for 2 years and was at the EMA 2000 when she wear that green low cut dress. NISE?

wow. i've dated some models and some other girls that have been in the public spotlight. and i'm a photographer... the work that i show, the girls do look like that... no camera tricks, no photoshop... just light and a good eye...
i'm also convinced that i could make anyone look good on film because im patient and i know how to look at people and get their vibe on film... thats why i get hired.
its funny cause my girl is nuts about how many beauties i know... but im with her, she's hot but any girl that pays any attention to modern media and cares is gonna give herself an ulcer.
im in the bizness and i dont even think about beauty the way most men do... we are all beautiful people... what we look like is only part of the puzzle. there are assholes and angels in every walk of life... musicians, models, actors included...
even jlo and christina have something... and most people look shit under restaurant lighting... even jlo.
tell your girl to chill... tell her you could get any one of those mtv girls but you are with her...
at least thats what i say.

I think this is an interesting subject to bring up because, as a designer, we are looking for the aesthetic in things regardless. If we are booking models for gigs, we are looking for a certain type of look, and of course, sex appeal sales. I think Jlo/Christina/etc all have unique looks and have their own way of marketing themselves. It's the marketing that we buy in to, and it's easy for someone who's not happy with their own appearance to look at these women that are getting attention and want to change themselves to be like them. Or, even worse, criticise them by saying "she is not even pretty", when it's really not true. All it really boils down to is eye candy. And Jlo on MTV obviously got the attention of you guys, and the people that have criticised her.

yes, i agree, girls need to stop taking all the media hype and shit seriously. they'd be a lot happier.
and i'm with the photographer who responded to this post: everyone has a certain beauty. humans in general are beautiful. however, somewhere along the lines people started misconstruing what actual beauty is.
my girls says that if she wanted to she could look just as beautiful, i just smile and say she's more beautiful. and of course to me, she is.
i just wanted to get your comments on this sad way of thinking...

A womans biggest fear is to be with a guy and have the guy leave her for "a prettier woman".

but my gf is beautiful. absolutely beautiful. she's told left and right that she's beautiful. i just feel bad that she is constantly feeling like she has to live up to a fucking mtv video. and not just my girl, almost every girl i've met!
