I do remember a bunch of "so-called" war experts saying that US Military would never be able to overthrow the Taliban. Uhmmm aren't they gone though?

depends on what your definition of gone is. the minute our A.D.D riddled government (historically speaking), they'll (or something like them) be back....

I also remember a bunch of American promises ... giving our solemn pledge to rebuild the country from the ground up, drown them in international monetary aid, and turn them into a bulwark of democracy in the region.
Fast forward 1 year : the central government controls the capital itself while warlords (many of them "governors" under the Taliban) run the rest of the country as a raggedy ass collection of semi-feudal states. By turns, they threaten each other and the central government. Opium poppy cultivation is way way up. The US media practically gushed over footage of Afghani women walking around without their burkhas after the US "liberation", but they haven't covered the return of burkhas nearly as well.
Meanwhile, the United States, while maintaining a military presence in Afghanistan and its neighbors, has moved on to new adventures. Once again, we're promising to bring freedom and democracy and a helping hand in rebuilding what we've destroyed and helped to destroy.
Remind me again why any rational observer shouldn't conclude that the United States is full of shit and should be destroyed? As an American myself, I would be really grateful if my governent would stop shitting on the rest of the world. Maybe if we either (1.) left the rest of the world alone militarily or (2.) actually kept our promises, I wouldn't have to read the news everyday to see which of our remaining freedoms we're giving up in order to be "safe from terror".

once he speaks, enough said.
if all the political threads could be condensed to only his posts and we'd all be wiser.

what exactly do you expect? they removied the fundamentalist oppressive government there, at least the police arent just shooting people in the streets and leaving them for dead anymore, terrorist bomb attacks have slowly died off, there has always been fighting in the outlying areas, youre not going to get a bunch of waring tribes to come to the table and negociate, but the cities, are now moving towards something much better than they were, and weve got thousands of reservice on the ground there acting as social workers, and using their american professional skills to build an economy and an educational system that has basically never existed there.. eventually the tribes will kill each other off, or just give up, because the cities are protected by US troops, i agree it could be happening faster, but expecting a country that has been torn by war for 50 years to just all the sudden snap into place, is ridiculous.the poppy field thing is agreeably retarded. the government has decided to turn a blind eye to that in exchange for peace, and while its working in those areas, theyre providing something like, 90% of the worlds heroin..
but hey, im a libertarian and believe in personal responsibility. you dont HAVE to do heroin..
goodtimes.
