Does anyone have any tips/advice on reducing "slow motion effect" in flash when doing screen transitions?

take out as much alphas and complex vectors as possible. if you need to move large images or vectors, constrain movements to pixels.

Minimise your use of alphas where possible. I'm having hell with the exact same problem on my site.

Use actionscript to do the transition rather than tweening.

Is it better to cobine one movie clip and then alpha it of have several seperate ones? ..or does this make any difference?

how do you use actionscript to tween? Any tutorials?

you use onClipEvent(enterframe) to run a loop that changes the object's x/y/alpha/tint/whatever. You can build in easing by using simple friction equations.
