CD cover gloss or silk?

Hi all,
I'm doing a CD cover, in a normal plastic case. Normally I like to have stuff printed on silk, but when going through all the nicely designed CDs in my collection I have found that all the ones in conventional cases are printed on gloss - does anyone know whether there is a reason for this?

screw gloss.
for real. i rarely use gloss on anything unless i have to.
it's all about texture man.

I would never use it normally myself - it just threw me a bit when every single CD in my collection which uses a normal jewel case was printed on gloss. It wouldn't be anything to with the fact that it's sitting behind a clear plastic cover?
