I registered a domain with a rather unusual name beautifulinformation.com on 14/01 this year and I've just realised that 2 days later someone reserved beautifulinformation.net
I found all his details under 'whois' directory but I'm to pissed off to email him right now. WHat would you do?
- mrdobolina0
just put .com after your domain, what can you do?
- schjetne0
He was in his full right to reserve the .net version of your .com name...
- rade0
Why did he fucking do it, man? Couldn't he think of a name himself?
- specta_d0
what do u care?
- neeko0
i could see how that might be annoying, but unless you know they did it on purpose, there isnt much you can do... there isnt much you can do even if they did do it on purpose.
i wonder if newstoday.org is available...
- schjetne0
When I was registered schjetne.net, I chose .net because .com was taken. If the owner of the .com domain had sent me an email claiming I stole his idea, I would be really fucking pissed. As long as you haven't protected beatifulinformation or whatever, everyone has a right to do whatever they want with it...

It's an entirely personal thing coming up with a name and having a story behind and going with it whichever possible direction. And then some rat takes the name for whateverer fucked up reason.
I'm sure they did it on purpose cause it's too much of a coincidence for a name like that too be registered as soon as mine was activated.
- rade0
Schjetne is your last name and I guess you're not the only person in your country with that name and I guess the situation is a little bit different, isn't it?
- neeko0
collective conciousness. you need to watch more art bell. unless the person knows you, how could they steal your domain name idea?
- ********0
dude, look at it this way, you got the .com so live it up!
- schjetne0
My point, rade, is that as long as you haven't protected or bought or whatever the rights to beausomething.net, you shouldn't email the guy.
- neeko0
when i said, "watch more art bell", that really should have read "listen to more art bell", since he's on the radio, not the tv.

Man, there is this guy named Sean in my office. My name is Shawn...I can't fucking believe it. How dare he.
Shit...get real and grow up. There are at least 10 businesses in my town alone that have the same or very similar names....I don't see them whining like little kids over it.
Does the guy even fucking live near you? Do you know him personally? Is he even a fucking designer?
Kid.

why were you dumb enough not to buy all the versions of the domain if you are worried about others registering... i mean its only $9/year (GoDaddy)...
isn't it possible with billions of people on this planet to have someone else put that combination of words together??
you better run and buy the .org, .tv, .ws, .biz, .info, .us, .ru, .nu before one of us crazy NT'ers runs off and buys them...
let it go man... let it go.
- rade0
So it's about grabing all you can and putting barbed wire fence around it before other rats arrive. If you don't do it than the guy who leeches on the name is smart.
- rade0
I mean, I will let it go.
- schjetne0
Nah, rade, it's more like he's got the full right to buy whatever domain he wants, regardless of what other people bought two days earlier...
- ********0
just make sure what you put up is better......problem solved
- slinky0
good... now that you've let it go... find a good counselor and have a good session.
the guy who bought BeautifulInformation.net probably thought of the name himself and was pissed to find someone already had bought the .com
i wonder if the people who own Methodic.com are pissed that I bought Methodic.net or if the CreativeSpark.com people are pissed that I bought CreativeSpark.net?
if i bought beautifulinfo.com would you be pissed at me?
- marcoantonio0
I would forget any animosity towards this guy/girl, and email them very politely and out of curiosity, AND MEAN IT, as to why they chose that name. You might be surprised - maybe they also have a story behind that name.
Same thing happened to me with redZed, back in them days (it´s no longer registered) the .org, .com, .au were already taken. So much for being original. (I think the same happened when I tried redZebra)
The reason I got antiDisseny (anti-design, in catalan) is cuz everyother ´anti-design´ domain was already taken. I guess there are certain feelings common to a lot of people...
