self employed UK?

Is anyone registered self-employed in the UK (IE not a ltd company but freelance). I've just finished a contract job where I've been asked for a unique tax reference number - I've only just sent off my forms to register as self-employed and I haven't got this number - so I can't get paid - has anyone got any advice?

yeh you can get paid and pay emergency tax...
you can claim that back too.
A company cannot withhold money, because of your tax number, its upto you to sort it out. If they are, sounds like a stalling tactic to me

man...I still haven't registered and I've done a few freelance jobs....when they catch up with me they are gonna be PISSED! I probably owe them a good couple grand....
