they are so right wing it makes me nauseous...still i can't turn away. i hear they are trumping (slightly) more liberal channels like cnn and msnbc. is this the future of american tv news?

there are so many things wrong with fox ...
but they do have the simpsons :) I wonder if the demographic that watches fox for news and other entertainment is the same one that watches the simpsons... seems unlikely, but who knows

CNN liberal!
HA CNN sounds like the media wing of the White House. Today on CNN Showdown Iraq.
And the headlines.
?œ Why Hans Blix is a communist and why his lies are stopping the war.
?œIraqi soldiers aren?ft human, so why not kill them
?œis the unpatriotic liberal left supporting terrorismAnd in the ticker
?œby the way North Korea launched a cruise missile over California today. Those silly Koreas.

well you can't #% with the simpsons...it's hard to imagine anyone not liking that show. south park has been $%^ing brilliant lately as well.

seems like whatever "group" doesn't have a president in the white house....the media is against them....? when clinton was in...media is left....left left...blah blah blah...now the media is right right right....and the left has no voice...funny.
- lovaboy0
well cnn is comparatively liberal...not europe liberal or fidel castro liberal but liberal enough that right wing commentators continually slam it. i remember seeing a headline on fox a few weeks ago..."Inspectors Continue To Search Iraq For Signs of Evil." No quotes around evil, mind you. They're dead serious...about brain washing you that is.

the right has always accused the media of being too liberal.
this looks interesting http://www.whatliberalmedia.com/… but I haven't read it...

My ultra-conservative grandfather swears by Fox News. 'They don't twist the truth like that other media.'
(He hasn't missed a Rush or G. Gordon Liddy radio show in 10 years.)When I watched Fox News, I saw more opinionated (left and right) diatribes, debates and screaming matches programmed than actual news reporting.

yeah tv news in general sucks...they pare down pretty much any topic, no matter how nuanced, into a 30-second left v. right shouting match, and any viewpoint that falls outside of the narrow repub v. democrat spectrum is labelled "crazy" or anti-American. I've even seen hosts pull the aren't-they-really just-a-communist card in recent weeks. i agree that npr is much better.

it is a strange thing to imagine that an entire network's affiliation is based on the fellow who scans world news and creates interesting tidbits for the ticker on that news station.

truth is subjective. sometimes I'd wish more people know about stuff like cognitive dissonance and socialization, so they wouldn't be such fricken lemmings.

The FCC held a public meeting regarding media consolidation yesterday here in Seattle.
Reclaim The Media and FAIR had week-long workshops, and events shadowing the NAB conference here last summer. Several pirate radio stations had broadcasts throught the event.

like ehhhhhhhhhhhh feeling dissonant about what station you chose to get your information from?

found this definition of cognitive dissonance http://www.ithaca.edu/faculty/st…
.. hadn't heard of it... good stuff...here's another psychological tendency that's easy to manipulate :)
- kpl0
cognitive dissonance is the psycological term for what happens when one encounters information which conflicts with what they believe in.
ie. i believe the sky is brown. someone tells me the sky is blue. they can't be both. so, I conclude that someone is lying, and further more, is a euro-communist pinko who is trying to steal my god-given freedom and liberty.

kpl,
I actually experienced this cognitive dissonance, when I was informed that lemming do not actually have suicidal tendencies and follow each other off of cliffs.
I thought... well why would someone make a computer game about something that doesn't reflect reality.
So I no longer trust any zoologists. Ever.

Phil Donahue, one of the most outspoken liberals in the US has a show on MSNBC which is being cancelled soon i believe.
conservatives just religiously watch/listen to their tv shows/radio programming.
the fanbase for a rush limbaugh is obviously much more diehard and fanatical than the fanbase for a bill maher.
networks realize that.

I swear by MTV news and Spongebob Squarepants. Whatever that little bastard has to say --- must be the truth.
Also - The Daily Show w/John Stewart seems to give nothing but facts. And Saturday night life used to have fair reporting until they stuck that ultra gun-toating rightwind NRA poster-prick Jimmy Fallon in there.... now I'm afraid that the real news get's all twisted.
- abizzyman0
... and I cognitively dis-all-my-aunts...
... they were abusive to me as a child.
people... seek truth!

heard about phil's show getting scrapped on npr, despite being the highest rated show on the network. something about that makes me nervous.
