I was just frustrated myself and wonder if it was me who sucked or if it were really the job market.

better than seattle, that's for damn sure. if your shit's good, you'll get a few callbacks at least.

nope, not one call.
there was this weird email from one of the companies i sent my resume to though. the person said:
"I enjoyed viewing your work. Thanks for the letter and the [custom designed goodies] .
I'm involved in showcasing amazing design with [so-and-so.org].
Please check it out and write me back."
Just that. No word of saying, oh we are not hiring now, or you don't fit into our company. I was like... eh, huh?

The market here is balls, its getting to be as bad as seattle. Pretty much the only job openings are for some freelance.
Everybody is moving out.
check out this graphic showing everybody moving away by how many available apartments are now up for grabs http://www.craigslist.org/housin…

Haaa I just did consulting work for FORUM CORPORATION SF, but I was working from home in Pittsburgh, PA. Crazy right? Their client was Microsoft, for their sad Voyager Intranet.

Anyway I did it for Forum Pittsburgh, but they obviously didn't go after SF guys, which sucks actually, that's how things work. The pay was good at $35/hour. Not bad for these days.
