im pretty good at talk to people but ive never had an interview to be a graphic designer, so i was wondering if there are ne trick or weird questions they may ask me?
thanks

here are some tricks:
1) wear a black turtle neck sweater - the foreign look
2) wear some black framed glasses - intelligence
3) put jel in your hair, make it look wet, then mess it up - my head is so full of ideas it's exploding look
4) when they ask you questions, if you don't know the answer, say "hmmm, i'll have to look into that" name/title drop as much as possible, and if you can get away with it speak with a german accent - they've been know to be well-schooled, critical and accurate in the field of graphic design - the job will be a shoo-in for you...

I'm not a graphic designer... but I have hired them. When I talk to someone, I wanna know:
that they have a good understanding of layout
how to design one design that works with multiple resolutions
Can work well with clients (ie, I make them pretend I'm a potential client and get them to get out of me what I want for a layout)

except for the black turtle neck (instead it's a cardigan) you've described not only me but every designer i know.
dude, you had me laughing out loud.

i've never been interviewed by a woman in my life... so i always break out the pencil skirt that goes down to my knees a pair of black pumps a man tailored white button down shirt and a black tie with my hair in a french roll and my glasses and my nice metal brief case.
i probably get hired most of the time because theyre thinking about bending me over their desk.
eh whatever works - whatever blows your skirt up.

so eloquently put shellie

hmm.. i've been interviewed by women a few times.
for whoever it was asking advice, just relax, don't be nervous. Don't be afraid to ask questions (shows interest) but make sure they're not stupid questions.

T1Pimp, off the subject...just wondering, but how do you tell someone "how to design one design that works with multiple resolutions" My work requires almost everything be "liquid" and it is such a pain to design graphics around that. Any tips to keep in mind?
- shellie0
thats good advice chilaquil
they almost always as you at the end "do you have any questions?"
have at least one or two questions... cos everybody always says they havent any.
- gepeto0
Shellie I want to interview you, right now.

just be calm and speak as elequently as possible. Know what you are saying is also good. Don't start to BS and then sound like an idiot
good luck

agree completely, throughout the interview listen very carefully and think of questions you may have about the job or environment.
asking questions shows interest and asking none is very very bad, makes you look like a chump.
:P

do lots of research on the company. Ask lots of design questions.
- unknown0
yeah good point Piper I was gonna add that as well, go into the interview knowing everything you possible can about the company.

Questions *not* to ask at an interview:
1) So are you nailing the receptionist...?
2) What did you mean when you said "target audience"?
3) Is it ok if I take office supplies home once in a while?
4) Who is your worst client, and will I have to work with him?
5) Are the other chicks in the staff pretty hot/single?
6) Do you mind if I smoke?
Any others...?
- unknown0
Don't ever ask about money unless they bring it up.

i have pretty long hair, do you think i should cut it...
- shellie0
long hair goes. immediately. grow it back when you get the job.
be punky, weird, different when you've landed a job. thats what my mom always told me. its totally worked.
- IloveQBN0
hep are you a girl?
here's some more advice:
Let them know you are passionate about design and express your views on what styles you like and who influences you and why. They will probably ask you to go through your portfolio first. Go into details about your work, explaining the problems and solutions and your approach to designing. Practice presenting in front of friends and family before.

If they ask if you've ever been in a Turkish prison... RUN!
