I was working on a website for a computer monitor company for a little over 3 weeks. I had to leave the assignment because my brother got shipped off to war and I wanted to spend some time with him.
Well now someone else has taken over the project and is completely ruining my design.
Here is the current website.
here is my version
http://www.sublinemedia.com/kds
(incomplete but you will get the idea)and here is what they are doing to it.
WTF?
I think my version was coming out pretty good and I had other things inmind for the inside pages. But now, the shit looks horrible. I am afraid that people will get the wrong idea when I use it as a portfolio piece.
What to do? Please help.

Oh... and if the person that is working on it happens to read this... sorry but the stuff you are doing is horrible and not in alignment with what I was trying to get done. You should follow the style that is given... not start doing something on your own.
This sucks....
=/

If you left the project, is the project still yours? Do you plan on coming back to the project?
If not, then I wouldn't use it in your portfolio because, really, it's not yours. If you want to show only what you did on that project, then screencap it and date it and show that.

The project isn't mine but they are going to use my design and a majority of the dev I did on the site.
I won't link to the site directly, I might just link to the one on my server. But regardless. I guess you can't help what others do inhouse ehh?

but i really like what you did, fresh.
nice for a computer monitor company. too bad they couldnt wait til you got back from visiting your bro.

this sucks for you. the new version is crappy. Why don't you talk to your boss or the one in charge of the redesign. There's nothing we can do here!
- freshmode0
I was working their through an agency. Freelance.
Because I was leaving, they felt they had to find someone else.
I have always hated picking up on someone else's work. I hate it when it happens to me.
If they like it, what can you do. Look at the original. They love that version.
Thanks shellie. I guess I will just use the stuff I have here.

yup. raw deal. you did a good job on that first version.
the difference between the 2 layouts reminds me of the initial concept, and the concept the client ended up signing off on, for every job ive done for the past year or so.

I am going to meet with the agent that placed me their today. Should I mention something or advise them to send either someone else or me back to the location to do a good job on the project?
I don't know if I should even bother. What do you guys think?

don't sweat this one website, there are more down the pike, let this one go... save your battles for something more important...
- IloveQBN0
you should bring it up with him and voice your concern. You are a designer with a passion, this means you care about what you do, and if someone is butchering your design, then you should contact that agency to let them know what a bad job they are doing.
- shellie0
FRESH, you got paid up for what you did though, right?
- robotron3k0
don't be a complainer fresh, it looks better for the long run...
- freshmode0
yup... I got paid.
Here is the deal.
I was supposed to do an initial "facelift" to the site and just change a few colors.
Being me, I pointed out a few problems with their current site and proposed a new site with fixes and better everything. They were sold and said go for it. So if it wasn't for me, this guy, the agency and I would not have been able to work on this project for more then 5 days.
So I went through 3 different versions before we got the one you saw. I even did 2 weeks worth of work on 1 version and they decided to change a few things but didn't extened the timeline.
So I was still able to do what I was supposed to do in the little time I had left. Giving them what you saw. To have it all ruined by someone else. IMO that is shit... I feel as if I at least have to say something.
Oh... and BTW, the agent is female. Not that it matters but folks keep saying to tell "him". Just to clarify.
I think I will. I am also going to put a pdf together that has everything I did.
I guess robo is right. I should just say fuck it and move on... but I can't...

fresh, don't get too attached to your work, keep your comp, it's yours and it;s an example of your style, don't take what the company did personally, your next project will be even better from the things you learn now...

sup B,
the newer version is shit. the old shit is shit. your version was clearly the best. you should tell your agent you dont appreciate your shit (which you should point out is clearly better) getting tampered with. it looks like maybe they tried to do your version, but faster. were they pressed for time or waht?
- freshmode0
They were only pressed for time because they gave their selves a deadline. Nothing new is getting launched. It's just a rebrand going on which could have waited an extra 2 weeks if you ask me.
I think I will point out what is going on.
Thanks ladies and gents.
This shit sux..
fresh!

I would let it go.
Saying something to the agent might not work in your favour. It could set you up as a prima donna designer (who, granted can do a good job) but doesn't listen.
The computer company are probably happy with what they got and since they are the ones paying the bills...leave them be.
You got a soild portfolio piece.
Be happy.
- BlueTree0
I don't see a huge leap from your design to thiers. My guess is that whoever is working on the new site isn't as proficient in Flash as you and that's why they made the majority of the changes.
- LastOne0
why not wait for the new guy in the parking lot and kick his ass?
LOL
- freshmode0
I guess that is an option...
nah. not worth it. not the type of person to do that. I agree that I should just let it go. I will. I will just use what I did and move on.
Life will only get better. I hope the person that is working on it doesn't try to take credit for the design of the actual site. Then I would get pissed.
FRESH!!!!
