Glad it worked out for you SB10 but what does one do if you know your boss has a personal pick on you...? If he gives promotions to his friend (where here hangs out with after hours as well) even though you were just perfect for the job and the next in line?
I'm currently in that situation... It seems that I can't do anything right for him... Even when I won a (regional) Macromedia Sotd award, he didn't even twitch... I'm sick of this... litteraly...
What to do? What to do? Look for a new job in these uncertain times?
Sigh...
- vespa0
Sounds tough. Have you spoken to him about it?
- SirG0
Tried it about a month ago... He laughed at me... Said I was seeing ghosts.
Talked to his friend 2 weeks ago. 3hour conversation. Asked the friend yesterday if they spoke about it.... His answer:"Ehm no... Was I supposed to?"

SB10, Vespa - I think you have given us hope...
*British anthem starts up in the backgournd*
I know times are tough especially working in advertising, we all suffer, we all need encouragement, we all need that get up and go, so lets us unite and spread the word...we shall be treated with the respect we deserve!

I say:.........no, might get that second flag of the day.................so I say; get that Gatling gun working on the bosses and go away, knowing you did a good thing. Remember that line in "Heart"; "don´t get involved in anything you can´t work away from in 15 seconds flat"
All that takes is that you control your budget, so the money doen´t run away with the initiativ.*bow*

Yes, I know; the Movie is actually called "Heat" and thats what you gonna spot around the corner; but hey, I hope you get the drift.

Dita - don't give up! There is a positive solution to every problem. And problem solving is what designers do so we all have the skills.

I work in advertising and it's great, pub for brainstorming, lunch every friday on the company, new technology whenever we want, great people, flexible hours, interesting work.
just depends, just keep at it and email your cv to companies YOU like.
- vespa0
I'm not mad at you JagdPanther.
enjoy your pint.I'm not nice all the time, btw.

I can only really speak for myself but it's one thing to sit and complain about something but, if you keep it to yourself without talking to the people that might be able to change things/make things better you just kind of spiral into unhappiness. Actually talk to people. If they care about you both as employees and as people then they will listen to you and if they don't then are they really the sort of people you want to be working for?
- vespa0
Exactly. They know as well as you do that companies get more out of employees if they feel valued.
If you explain how you feel and they continue to shit on you, at least it's all out in the open and you can make an informed decision, rather than one based on misunderstandings.

I tried talking to both my boss and his friend who is now above me... But they don't seem to care... And you're right... Do I want to work for people like that... That's what I've been strugling with for the last 2 weeks...

We hear you, SirG; read my bit about the Gatling gun......

feeling valued is perhaps one of the most important things to this job..
a good salary, or paycheck is ususally top, but right behind it is respect, and value.
i know this, because i was treated like a child - photoshop paint monkey at my last job..
the problem was, the president there (which is bullshit...out of 3 'bosses' he was just the one that 'acted' like a pres.) had known me since i started in design..and he still thought of me as the 'designer kid'..no matter what i did....
it was truly truly awful...
fortunately i got out of there...
became art-director at another place, and now work on clients he'd give his left nut to have..
but the biggest best parto of it all (besides a way better paycheck) is the respect i get at this place (MONTAGE-DMC)....
it was almost hard to get used to...
from being treated like a barely tolerated kid, to being a respected art-director..
anyhow...you create your own luck in this world..and this line of work specifically...
get out and mingle..go to shows, go to meet other designers and art-directors..mix it up as much as you can...
and when you see a chance to make a jump to another firm...DO IT!
you may not be able to change things at your current place of employement..but you owe it to yourself to try...
and if nothing happens..
crank out those resumes, and start looking..
there are ALWAYS jobs out there..
even when you thing there aren't
