ok... here's my thing:
I'm on a x/y axis. I am at 0,0. I have directions to go x units at y degrees. I'm facing up (positive end of y axis).
if I was to go 20 spaces at 0 degrees I would be at (0,20). 20 spaces at 90 degrees would be at (20,0). and so on...
what equation would I use to figure out the rest of it? ie, I got 20 spaces at 45 degrees? 26 degrees?

soh cah toa!

aw sheit. I hate trig.
ok. wtf is my scientific calc...

windows xp has one. :)

shouldn't Pythagoras theorem be able to help you out? as long as the triangle formed by the points (0,0) ; (x, 0) ; (x, y) has a straight angle you can apply the theorem to it, and be able to calculate just about every angle, distance and what-not with it.
can't remember it though, it's been years since I've used it. hope it helps though.

It's simple trig... go to moock or something.. as for Pythagoras, that won't help coz you've only got sides' length

to figure out what? the length of the sides? angles? what's "it"?
pythagorean theorem is for sides only. not angles.

hmm. but if he knows one angle (since he's using vectors ie. angle + length), and the corner angle is always 90 degrees, then he can figure out the third angle. that should be sufficient to get all the lengths too using sin, cos and that third thing I always hated.
or did I get it all wrong?

analythic geometry my friend.
this is what you would call polar coordinates, way back when i wasn't in school [used in survey mostly, for calculating azimuths]

word.

You don't use any angles in phythagoras... linnpimp.
You basically need to arrange SOH CAH TOA to suit your needs... and use a Radians conversion if you're using Flash
S=O/H C=A/H T=O/A
or O= sin *H
to put it roughly

...then you take the dirivitive of that equation!

as simple and ellegant pythagoras doesn't solve everything :)
but who am i to say.
my schoolyears = 0

alright, I wasn't thinking about the flash part, just the math. and I always hated trigonometry and geometry.
but hey, don't underestimate the power of good ol' Pyth! :)

finnpimp
please don't get me wrong, he is the base for everything.
