I'm trying to set up a router (nokia ip55), I'm supposed to type in the given IP address in my browser which will access the setup app on the router, but I just get a massage saying PPPoE server could not be found... the router is detecting my comp because the ethernet light flashes.. whats going on??
any help at all please :)

maybe there is a port number you could put at the end? (check manual)

Turn off any software firewalls you have running.
If you have WinXp turn off the internal one too.

I'm in osx, firewall off, there is very little documentation given, really just says connect the hardware, type in this IP and the setup should appear in the browser. One thing is it says to set using DHCP but I need to use PPPoE (obviously) and then the DHCP option is not available in the drop down, just PPP.
???

hang on..why arent you using DHCP?
- ribit0
If it's anything like my situation (BT Openworld ADSL, OSX)...
you should be using DHCP to connect to the router (you wont be entering any ISP settings on the Mac, no PPP settings), just DHCP.
how the router connects to your ISP is another matter... who is the ISP?

I'm using demon.
I have tried everything, the browser just ticks away and comes up with 'connection failure occured' - everything appear ok with the router (all the right lights are flashing as and when they should), its as if there is nothing on it for my browser to find -I dont get it :(
thanks for your help - more please!
- ribit0
and you are using DHCP...
hmmm...
- unknown0
yep
:(
- ribit0
and ethernet port is active, and top of the list in 'Network port configuration'?
and you chose DHCP, not DHCP with manual IP?
- unknown0
yeah, at the top of the list, plain DHCP setting - same thing... I think I've tried every option?

I leave DHCP client id blank right?
- ribit0
mines blank...
- unknown0
I dont get it... I just knew this wasn't going to be easy like it should be.
Appreciate your help ribit.

have you tried switching the router off and on?
- unknown0
hehe whadaya mean I just bought this one!!
I tried that earlier, but I will try again, I'll try another mac and OS9 aswell.
If that doesn't work expect to hear of a shopping market massacre in the hackney area sometime tomorrow.
thanks ribit - I battle on!

*bump*
Help pleeease. what can I do? How do I get the interface up??
- mep0
Try leaving everthing blank in DHCP. then type in the server address. after that rebot the router wait a few seconds and rebot the computer. I've had hella trouble getting mine to connect also...this is how mine finally recognized the hardware.

mm no luck.
I haven't put anything in DHCP, it says IP address: x.x.x.x
router address: x.x.x.x
subnet mask etc but the router address isn't 192.168.1.1 which is given as the routers default.. I'm not sure where its pulling these IP's from, networking is NOT my thing. actually, I hate it.nothings happening aaaghh!!
could the router have nothing installed or something??
