Are you serious, mobius? Explain to me how they sound anything like The Strokes.

how could you ever mistake billy corgans whiney nasaly voice?

I was kind of hoping for some sort of evolution from the final Smashing Pumpkins releases... this stuff is almost identical

i think zwan is a stupid name

Zwan are better than the strokes. Zwan's new record is good but not as good as Machina 2. It was cool that they flew back after Letterman to play the Metro.

Yeah, it kinda gets my goat abit how similar it is to SP. Maybe it wouldn't seem that way if Jimmy wasn't drumming for them. It doesn't seem as strong as any pumpkins stuff.
I loved Machina. I know it wasn't really the band I fell in love with in '91 when I first heard and saw the video for Siva. But still it was good.
I guess maybe the knowledge the pre-pumpkins Billy was really writing Cure-influenced stuff made me like the fact that Machina really was a cross between that and his love for and influence of 70s big rock. I think that album perfect blends those two totally opposite flavors that he loved together.
But Zwan lacks something.

It's similar to The Strokes? How so? I haven't bought the album, I didn't even know it was ready, why didn't an alarm bell ring out when they had that album out? Why was I kept in the dark? *whine*

I've been listening to it almost nonstop since I got the album. I think it's very good. True, it's quite similar to SP, and even though I'm a huge SP fan, that's kinda disappointing. I hoped for something new and fresher. Maybe Corgan is just too stuck in this style and sound...
Zwan is not SP, and I thought they would let that reflect in their music. Corgan talked about doing something completely new, more downtoearth rocknroll. But this is still the standard SP formula, with Chamberlin on drums, Billy on vocals and solo guitars, some mediocre female on bass, and some shy guy on backup guitars.
Yeah. I still love the album though.
