Of the choices though,
It seems that the Think version is the only one with personality.
It seems more of a monument than a giant, modern, tombstone.
The fly around slideshow do-whacky is helpful.

I guess it is a ghost structure at the end of the day ...
sort of invisible in the sense that it really has no function except as a place holder for something which does not physically exist .... but exists only in memory ....
it is the most comforting of all the designs ... the other choice up for selection was like supermans palace of fucking solitude ... way to coked up.

And the trend in the other designs seems to be:
"Knock down 2, we'll build 3!"

seems like ny people are used to two giant pillars coming out of lower manhattan. it should soothe their souls.
plus, they're pretty much ornamental. it's giant and useless, which is good cos the best memorials are the ones that are just looked at. it's not like they need the space for jobs, the US Govt has been getting folks to move jobs into the rest of the tri-state area away from manhattan.
The other design had a "wedge of light" where there would be direct sunlight hitting the site (through the many buildings) during the times of 9-11am, when the towers were attacked. I hope they can fit that into the THINK proposal.

The THINK towers were to accomodate further installations designed by other architects. That simply would not work (it'd be an engineering nightmare), and it'd look horrible. Picture big blobs next to white boxes suspended 40 stories up in a big frame.
Personally, I am a fan of Libeskind's work, and have been for 10 years. I would like to see his design built.
As of the scale, all of the designs accomdate the 'needed' square footage.
I just don't like what looks like the same WTC, but just the structure. It should be better than that.

If you guys want to learn specifics about the projects, pick up Architecture Record (who favored Libeskind's design before it was a finalist). They go into some depth about the pros and cons of the schemes.
