I had my 14.4 baud modem. on my Macintosh LC III when I first started.
But..i just never was in any trendy design circles to know what the heck was going on. Was an HTML bitch back in the day before I found design.

ah yeah ... i remember. i remember seeing some site onyro did that was, probably even by today's standards, BADASS.
jay david was all up in it and is still kickin ass at explosion.nu. as far as i'm concerned, he's one of the best out there.

SwankArmy was amazing. We never did to get to see its new design in the end..! :-( Such a shame, because Angela Martini (SpaceGirl) was working on it.
Does anyone remember the forum that became popular after the Swanky days? For some reason I forget the name of it, but it was a pretty 'hidden' forum, you had to have the right URL to go signup.. it was all in black, and had THOUSANDS of designers on there. It got ruined by morons posting CSS hacks to the posts forcing the pages to constantly change and blink ;-) Threadless, or sommat?
NewsToday is good, but it's no SwankArmy :-(

Actually, gabe, you just helped me remember.. I used to use dreamless.org, not sure about dreamful though.
Other highlights of that time were the #design and #dreamless IRC channels. I know that Vena will remember the #design days :-) I think I bumped into Dorian on #perl a few weeks ago. Does he come here?

err.. who was the dude in swankarmy.. i couldve swore it was cloudform (yes yes i know, that's demo's).. but i guess not. 9volt had a nice website too. he was cute.
uhm i wasn't really into design yet either, i was still drawing ansi.. but i remember a lot of it. i also remember chankarmy, and the dope holding/link page tpc made for it.
when i was in acid.. that's when eric jordan taught me how to use layers in photoshop. im not ashamed. and im not even lying.
