I personally as a viewer don't have a problem with it, but I DO know that most people hate it. Specially the ones with two monitors (cause the window ends up in the middle, half in one monitor and half in the other, or so I'm told)
I'm on a laptop at 1024X768 so it's no biggie. But I'd never do it.

Look, i think at your splash page you should at least let people to select lauching your site in the same browser or in pop-up window.
It's rather an impolite manner to pop-up without asking people.....
