Microsoft did it with Helvetica didn't they?

I don't really see the big deal. Isn't it okay as long as you aren't distributing it? It doesn't matter if you alter the font itself or the outlines in Illustrator, which people do all the time. Many logos are edited versions of certain fonts. Is there more to the question?

I can't imagine it's illegal to modify to satisfy a particular project needs...
in fact how could anyone tell if you modified the font , or modified all the dots and spacing later in the layout program... unenforceable.
